A Message from the East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation
Greenport, NY – Following a vibrant and successful 2025 season, the East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation has taken time to reflect on how we can most meaningfully serve our community in the year ahead. In 2026, we are reaffirming our core mission: to preserve and promote the maritime heritage, culture, and history of the East End of Long Island — and to ignite curiosity about the past, present, and future of our marine environment.
To advance this mission with the focus it deserves, we will be concentrating our efforts on three key priorities:
Modernizing the museum and enhancing the visitor experience
Preserving Bug Lighthouse, one of our region’s most cherished maritime landmarks
Expanding educational and conservation initiatives that support the health of our bays and working waterfront
In alignment with these priorities, and after thoughtful consideration and valuable input from local businesses, partners, and community members, the Board of Directors has made the decision to pause the Maritime Festival for 2026. Our annual Land & Sea Gala will continue in 2026 as it remains an essential celebration of our mission and community.
We did not arrive at this decision lightly. As a community-based organization, our purpose is to be a positive, inspiring, and forward-moving force; cultivating engagement, deepening understanding, and ensuring our work meaningfully serves the town and region as a whole.
While we understand that some will be disappointed, our commitment has never been stronger: to build awareness, appreciation, and support for our shared maritime heritage and the waters that define us. We are energized to channel our collective talents, including the leadership of our new Executive Director, Erin Kimmel, alongside our dedicated Board and volunteers, into new and innovative ways to deliver meaningful experiences year-round and ensure the museum’s long-term sustainability.
We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, members, and longtime supporters who make our work possible. Looking ahead, our vision extends beyond a single weekend of celebration — toward year-round opportunities for learning, celebration, and exploration that bring maritime history into conversation with today’s most pressing issues, from environmental stewardship to the preservation of our working waterfront.
