THE BAYS AROUND US

The 2013 exhibit at the East End Seaport Museum, in partnership with East End Arts, showcases the finalists of the East End Challenge.

The theme is “The Bays Around Us, a tribute to Rachel Carson”.

The challenge, open to all high school students of the East End (including Riverhead Town), is to complete a project that explores the intersection of science and art – much as Rachel Carson did, who used literature to express the findings of her rigorous scientific observations.

The finalists are:   21 students (some are in teams) submitting 13 projects. The opening and awards ceremony is 5- 8 PM May 25th.  The exhibition continues through October 14th, 2013.

The Mission of the East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation is to recognize, restore and preserve the maritime heritage of the East End of Long Island, New York.

· In Greenport, we operate the East End Seaport Museum on the waterfront with its maritime exhibits and collections. Our blacksmith conducts demonstrations of iron working with hands-on experiences for children at the Village Blacksmith Shop.

· Offshore - we own, operate, and maintain the historic Long Beach Bar (Bug) Lighthouse. Bug Light is the gateway to Greenport, Shelter Island, and Peconic Bay and we are proud to be the stewards of this working navigational structure.
