The 28th annual Maritime Festival parade, sponsored by Southold Local, will kick off at 11:00 a.m. on the corner of Broad and north Main Street. After few welcoming words by Greenport Village Mayor George Hubbard and the National Anthem performed by Roselle Borrelli, the parade will begin its march down Main Street passing the reviewing stand and head west onto Front Street. It will include all 130 sharp looking NJROTC cadets, the Greenport school band, elected officials, local, civic and cultural organizations. Also marching proudly will be fanciful Merfolk, pirates, dance and hula hoop groups, the ELIH pink ladies, volunteers from the fire fighter Fire Boat, San Simeon, and the Fathers of Saint Anargyroi Greek Church. Rolling right along will be antique cars, fire departments vehicles, the Shamrock Farm mini train, a unicyclist, Penny Farthing bikes, Little Miss and Mr. Mattituck, the Strawberry Queen, our Grand Marshals Lisa and Richard Israel, Greenport Brewery’s firetruck, and a host of other entertaining participants. Don’t blink because you’ll miss the promised surprise from Salt Air Farms. About 3,500 people usually line the streets and attend the parade.
Professional and amateur camera buffs will capture the event, and then share their pictures on the EESM’s Facebook space. Parade commentary will be provided by Ted Webb. Many thanks to Joe Corso for his tireless efforts in bringing this wonderful parade together.
