Gail Horton - “Mermaid’s Tale of Greenport “

Gail’s original Mermaid’s Tale of Greenport was created for the First Night Celebration that took place in the 1990s. It is a whimsical but true presentation of Greenport’s history told though the eyes of a visiting mermaid.

The story is colorfully illustrated with pictures of Ms Horton’s original tapestries.  Click Picture or Title for more info.

A trained writer and artist, Gail Horton shifted from oils to fibers in the 1970s. Taught by her maternal grandmother, Huldah Taft Dimon, she developed skills in traditional rug hooking.

Personally created designs, hand-dyed wools, sketching and photography contribute to making Gail’s pieces so unique. Her tapestries are often inspired by traditional Irish stories or the local history and natural beauty of her native North Fork.
