OFFSHORE LIGHTHOUSE CRUISES & TRIPS TO BUG LIGHT

Journey with us on the Peconic Star II along Gardiners Bay and Long Island Sound to see the historical offshore lighthouses of Southold Town; including the iconic Long Beach Bar “Bug” Light, Orient Point, Plum Island and Little Gull Lights.

Longer cruises include the opportunity to see 2-3 additional lighthouses. Day Cruise participants may also see Race Rock, Cedar Point, “The Ruins” by Gardiner’s Island, North Dumpling, New London Ledge and New London Light—one of the oldest lighthouses in the United States.

Past participants have especially enjoyed seeing the seals by Little Gull Island! The cruise vessel will stop next to each lighthouse for great photo opportunities.

NEW THIS YEAR! – Go aboard Bug Light!

There are very few offshore lighthouses in the world that people can visit - you can tour one of them with us.

Long Beach Bar “Bug” Light is one of only four offshore lighthouses in the United States that receives visitors.  An opportunity to go aboard an offshore lighthouse is not to be missed!

Participants on each cruise will go aboard Bug Light for a visit.  Explore the lighthouse and see the view the lighthouse keepers saw!  Visitors will have 45 minutes to explore the lighthouse, take photos, view a special exhibit and listen to a narration of its history and stories.

Our trips will be narrated by Ted Webb, an expert on local maritime history and one of the people instrumental in its restoration; and/or Bob Allen, the great grandson of William H. Follett, the last lighthouse keeper of Bug Light. They will share family stories and legends about the lights, including several that are reputedly haunted….

Each cruise will begin with a welcome at the museum, where participants will get their boarding passes and see the actual Fresnel lenses of Plum Island and Little Gull lighthouses.

We offer three kinds of lighthouse trips.  All our trips include a visit to Bug Light.

Register early! Most trips are sold out well in advance of the date!

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING ON THE CRUISE

Casual attire, boat shoes or sneakers—footwear with a rubber sole so you don’t slip on the deck.

-Windbreaker, sweatshirt, or sweater for evening comfort

-Hat and sunscreen.  The decks are open and the summer sun is hot and bright

-Rain gear if necessary.  We go rain or shine.

-Don’t forget your camera!

MUSEUM & CRUISE LOCATION

The Seaport Museum is located in the village of Greenport, NY at the foot of Third Street, in the former railroad station adjacent to the Shelter Island Ferry dock. The cruise vessel is located on the dock in back of the Museum.  We are convenient to the Hampton Jitney, LIRR station, and there is plenty of parking nearby.

The Museum offers an array of exhibits on the maritime heritage of Greenport and the North Fork, including the oyster industry, Hooligan’s Navy of WWII, ship’s models from the 17th century to modern times, historical photos and artifacts, and an aquarium of local fish and sea creatures.

We also have a wonderful gift shop filled with nautical gifts—prints, wine glasses & mugs, postcards, books, DVDs, hats, craft kits and much more. Take home a souvenir from your trip!

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN

Lighthouse cruises are a great family adventure!  However, we do not recommend the trip for children under ten years of age.  For safety and security reasons, children under ten cannot go aboard the lighthouse. We cannot accept unaccompanied minors on the cruise.

SPECIAL NEEDS & REQUESTS

If you have special dietary, access or other requests, we will be happy to work with you to make the lighthouse trip safe and enjoyable for you or a member of your family.  Please call us at 631-477-2100 or email eastendlighthousecruise@gmail.com and we will be happy to assist you.

We look forward to welcoming you to a cruise!
